A little bit of old-world charm with a wonderfully useful purpose.

This beautiful vintage oval drinks cabinet has been given a new lease of life with a soft, muted painted finish, carefully distressed to highlight its elegant curves and decorative detailing. I’ve then finished it with dark wax, which has settled into the mouldings and carved details, giving the piece a beautifully aged, time-worn patina.

 

The result is a finish that feels as though it has been loved for years rather than freshly painted — soft, imperfect and full of character.

 

The curved glazed doors open to reveal a generous interior, making this a lovely place to keep bottles, glassware and cocktail essentials, although it would work equally well as a small display cabinet for treasured pieces.

 

The oval top is removable and doubles as a useful serving tray, making it particularly practical when entertaining.

 

Set on elegant cabriole-style legs, with decorative beading and carved detailing, this is a really unusual piece with plenty of presence despite its compact size.

 

I love furniture that is both beautiful and useful, and this little cabinet manages to be both.
