☕ Coffee with a Fellow Maker
This week I had the loveliest catch-up over coffee with fellow maker Emma from @eb4_emma_booker. We first connected on Instagram (thank goodness for social media bringing like-minded people together!) and, as it turns out, we’re local to each other. So we decided to meet in person and become sounding boards for one another.
Being self-employed is full of rewards — the freedom, the creativity, the chance to follow your own ideas — but it can also feel a little lonely at times. Having someone who gets it, who understands the highs and lows, and who you can bounce ideas off, is such a gift.
Emma creates the most incredibly funky furniture — bold, fun, and full of personality. If you haven’t already, definitely go check her out on Instagram and give her a follow.
🎨 A Treat in the Paint Shop
After our coffee catch-up, I carried on the day with another one of my little joys — a trip to the paint shop. Isn’t it crazy when you love paint so much that going to your local store feels like a treat? For me, Brewers in Taunton is heaven. I could happily spend hours looking through all the colour swatches and dreaming up new combinations. The staff are always so helpful (though they’re probably fed up with seeing me by now!).
🌺 Bright Colours, Bold Choices
All this inspiration came together beautifully this week when I decided to bring out the bright colours again. After weeks of neutrals and softer tones, I got to work on a stag chest of drawers using Bird of Paradise by Wise Owl — and oh, how I’ve loved it! The colour is bold, joyful, and completely transformative — just the kind of shade that makes a statement without even trying.
There’s only one catch… this was my last tin of Bird of Paradise. Once it’s gone, that’s it. Which makes this chest feel even more special — a little one-of-a-kind piece painted in a colour I’ve treasured.
It’s always bittersweet when a favourite shade runs out, but maybe that’s part of what makes pieces like this so unique. They’re not just furniture — they’re little time capsules of the colours, moods, and ideas I’ve loved along the way.
The bright stag chest is now available on the website, so if it’s calling your name, be quick — once it’s gone, it’s gone!
